About the course

11/04/2024

Global warming calls for urgent action, and energy transition technologies are part of the solution. The MoMEnTOM MOOC provides a comprehensive look into the future of energy, with a focus on renewable innovations and sustainable practices.

As the world pivots toward sustainable energy, innovative materials and systems for energy production and conversion are becoming crucial, both in France and globally. Extensive research and industrial initiatives are underway internationally, pushing these technologies to the forefront of tomorrow’s scientific challenges. The MoMEnTOM: Molecules and Materials for the Energy of Tomorrow MOOC, offered by Université Paris-Saclay in collaboration with ENSTA IP Paris, provides a unique opportunity to explore these emerging energy systems and examine the societal and economic impacts of the energy transition.
Global warming is driven by greenhouse gas emissions, primarily CO2, NO2, and CH4. Key sources of these emissions include industry, agriculture, transportation, and heat and electricity generation. More than half of CO2 emissions originate from just three regions: China, the United States, and the European Union. Despite this concentration, the effects of climate change are felt globally. For Africa—the continent with the lowest CO2 emissions—the consequences are especially severe.

What exactly are the challenges of the energy transition? This MOOC provides a foundational understanding of technologies essential to the energy transition, covering areas such as solar energy conversion, hydrogen production, and electrochemical energy storage. It also showcases technological and research advancements that support renewable energy adoption, along with solutions for the production, storage, and distribution of clean energy—equipping participants with insights into the future energy landscape.
Sustainable energy solutions exist, but they require shifts in energy usage, adaptations to economic models, and critical decisions across technology, policy, and society.

Enroll now to explore innovative, low-carbon energy solutions, transformative technologies, and practical steps toward energy efficiency and sustainability!
